I used to work in a home for mentally and physically disabled people, and I remember taking them to therapy sessions in which music was used as a sort of sensory therapy, and so it seems to me that music therapy has already been accepted as legitimate. I don't really know any of the facts about music therapy, and I'm sure there is plenty of information to explore on this topic, but I don't see a whole lot of controversy. Not that that's a bad thing; it just means you might have to play out people's objections against music therapy versus people's arguments for it.
